Dubai/Riyadh – In a significant move to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s healthcare sector, Pfizer Saudi Arabia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lifera, a company backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), to explore local pharmaceutical manufacturing opportunities. The announcement was made during the opening day of the Global Health Exhibition 2025 in Riyadh.
The partnership aligns closely with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to boost the Kingdom’s biopharmaceutical industry while enhancing national pharmaceutical security. By focusing on local drug production and technology transfer, the initiative seeks to reduce reliance on imported medicines and build a resilient supply chain.
The MoU emphasizes knowledge and technology transfer, workforce development, and fostering domestic research and manufacturing capabilities. This move is expected to position Saudi Arabia as a regional hub for life sciences, encouraging innovation and high-value job creation in the healthcare sector.
Lifera, established by PIF to drive the nation’s biopharma ambitions, will leverage this partnership to expand the production of vaccines, biologics, and advanced therapies. The collaboration is part of a broader effort to diversify the economy, promote sustainable access to essential medicines, and strengthen local industry ecosystems.
Experts note that such initiatives are critical in a rapidly growing healthcare market, as they not only improve access to medicines but also stimulate research and development within the Kingdom. This strategic move signals a long-term commitment to transforming Saudi Arabia into a self-reliant and globally competitive life sciences hub.
