A 41-year-old man will face murder charges on Saturday, October 25, for the killing of a 38-year-old woman found dead at Capri by Fraser China Square hotel in Singapore. The police announced on Friday that the suspect was arrested after he voluntarily went to the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre at around 7:40 a.m. to inform the officers that he had killed his wife.
Upon receiving the report, police officers immediately responded to the hotel on South Bridge Road, where they discovered the woman lying motionless in a hotel room. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The woman, who was stabbed, and the suspect are understood to be Indonesian nationals and married to each other.
Around 8 a.m., a cafe employee near the hotel observed three to four police cars outside the lobby. A hotel guest noticed a large number of police officers in the lobby around 9 a.m. but was told by the concierge that nothing had happened. The body was later removed from the hotel in a police hearse at the basement loading bay at noon.
Police were seen loading two trolleys filled with paper bags containing evidence into a white van at the hotel’s drop-off point. Uniformed and plainclothes officers were also spotted packing up and departing from the scene.
Frasers Hospitality, the hotel operator, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident. They affirmed their full cooperation with the authorities and extended their thoughts to the victim’s family. The company also pledged support to guests and employees affected by the incident.
The murder charge carries the possibility of the death penalty. Investigations by the police are ongoing.
