The Malaysian government has announced an increase in subsidies and cash assistance to support farmers, smallholders, and diesel users amid rising fuel prices and global supply disruptions. The move comes as part of efforts to maintain food supply stability.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that ensuring the availability of essential goods remains a top priority. He noted that the government is prepared to increase spending to manage the impact of global energy price increases.
Under the new measures, the Paddy Cultivation Incentive has been raised from RM160 to RM300 per hectare for the 2026 planting season. This increase is expected to benefit around 200,000 farmers across the country.
In addition, diesel cash assistance under the Budi Agri-Komoditi and Budi Individual Diesel programmes will be increased from RM300 to RM400 per month for April 2026. Payments are scheduled to be distributed starting April 21.
The assistance programmes are expected to benefit over 200,000 farmers and smallholders, along with approximately 150,000 diesel vehicle owners in Peninsular Malaysia. The government has allocated additional funds to support these initiatives.
Authorities also announced relaxed rules for diesel purchases, particularly for non-vehicle usage. Farmers and equipment operators will now be able to purchase larger quantities of diesel without requiring special permits, subject to proper documentation.
The Ministry of Finance stated that total subsidy spending for April 2026 could reach around RM7 billion. The government will continue to monitor global developments, especially the impact of the West Asia conflict, and may introduce further measures if necessary.
