Colombian cyclist Juan Sebastián Molano, representing UAE Team Emirates-XRG, achieved a commendable second place in the first stage of the 2026 Tour de Hongrie on Wednesday. Dominating the sprint finish was Belgian rider Tim Merlier from Soudal Quick-Step, while Bahrain Victorious’s Phil Bauhaus took the third position in the 143-kilometre segment.
The race commenced in front of the picturesque Gyula Castle, featuring 112 riders from 19 teams battling it out in this five-day event.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG boasts a formidable lineup, including the talented French cyclist Benoît Cosnefroy and up-and-coming Emirati talent Mohammed Al Mutaiwei. Accompanying them are Vegard Stake Laengen, Rui Oliveira, and Adrià Pericas, adding to the team's strength.
Covering a total of over 836 kilometres in five stages, the 2026 Tour de Hongrie features a progressively challenging route, especially as it extends eastward across Hungary, showcasing rolling terrains and tricky finishes ripe for potential breaks and tactical plays.
Stage four, which runs from Mohács to Pécs, is anticipated to be critical in shaping the general classification standings. Additionally, the concluding stage into Veszprém could significantly alter the overall rankings.
