Indonesia has stopped people from using Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot for now because it can create unsafe and inappropriate pictures. This is the first time a country has done this to the AI tool after worrying it might make harmful images, including those involving children.
The government found that Grok’s picture-making feature didn’t have strong safety checks, which allowed it to create bad content. Other countries are also watching closely how AI apps handle sensitive stuff like this.
The company that made Grok, called xAI, has now made the picture and editing tools available only to users who pay. They are trying to control who can use these features so the AI isn’t misused.
Indonesia’s decision shows how hard it is for governments to keep up with AI technology. It’s not easy to find the right balance between letting new technology grow and keeping everyone safe.
This case makes it clear that stronger safety rules are needed to stop misuse and protect people, especially kids. Indonesia’s action might make other countries think about doing the same.
