A 36-year-old Indian national has pleaded not guilty to charges of molesting and harassing a flight attendant aboard a Singapore Airlines flight. The accused, Akash Tiwari, was formally charged in a Singapore court following an incident that allegedly took place on February 9.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the flight attendant was performing her duties near the passenger’s seat. The accused allegedly made inappropriate physical contact, prompting the crew member to warn him and move away.
Allegations Of Continued Harassment
Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly followed the flight attendant into the aircraft galley, where he cornered her in a confined space and continued his actions. The situation reportedly caused distress to the crew member, who raised her voice before leaving the area.
The accused is also said to have followed her back into the aisle before eventually returning to his seat after the matter was reported to a supervisor.
Arrest And Legal Proceedings
Officers from Singapore’s Airport Police Division arrested the man upon arrival at Changi Airport. A gag order has been issued to protect the identity of the victim.
During court proceedings, the accused denied the charges and is expected to face further legal hearings as the case progresses.
Possible Penalties
If convicted, the accused could face up to three years in jail, along with fines or caning under Singapore law. Additional charges related to harassment and causing distress may result in further penalties, including fines or imprisonment.
Authorities have reiterated their strict stance on in-flight misconduct and emphasized the importance of passenger behavior and safety onboard aircraft.
