India will host a major international event focused on empowering women in agriculture with the Global Conference on Women in Agri-Food Systems (GCWAS-2026) scheduled from March 12 to March 14 in New Delhi. The three-day conference will bring together global experts, policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs and farmers to discuss ways to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in agriculture and food systems.
The conference will take place at the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Hall at the ICAR Convention Centre in the National Agricultural Science Complex. It is being organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research along with partner organisations working in agricultural research and rural development.
According to officials, the event aims to promote gender-responsive policies, technological innovation and inclusive agricultural development. The conference will showcase successful models and initiatives that empower women farmers, entrepreneurs and leaders across the agri-food value chain. Experts will also discuss strategies to improve women’s access to resources, markets, and modern farming technologies.
The event is expected to be inaugurated by Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, while senior policymakers and agricultural experts will participate in discussions on sustainable farming, food security and gender equality in agriculture. The conference is expected to serve as a global platform to exchange ideas, share research findings and strengthen international collaboration in building more inclusive and resilient agri-food systems.
