The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has entered into a pivotal agreement with the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE) to foster local talent in the expanding civil nuclear energy field within the UAE.
Carried out through DGE's Mawaheb Talent Hub, this initiative focuses on equipping Emirati individuals with unique technical skills essential for advancing the nation's clean energy objectives.
The signing ceremony, attended by His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, ENEC's Managing Director and Group CEO, alongside Her Excellency Mariam Al Musharrakh of GovTalent at DGE, marked the start of this collaborative effort.
The formal agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr Abdulla AlShimmari, Executive Director of DGE’s National Workforce Enablement Sector, and Ahmed Alshamsi, ENEC’s Chief Human Capital Officer.
This five-year initiative is set to train at least 100 UAE Nationals holding high school diplomas, vocational qualifications, or postgraduate degrees, providing them with critical career paths in the nuclear domain.
Mawaheb Talent Hub will be instrumental in supplying ENEC with suitable candidates and facilitating access to cutting-edge facilities for training workshops, technical evaluations, and interviews.
ENEC will spearhead the training initiatives and provide financial assistance to participants during their educational journey. Graduates meeting employment criteria will be considered for roles within ENEC and its subsidiaries, particularly at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
Mohamed Al Hammadi commented that ENEC's goal has always been to cultivate a robust Emirati workforce capable of steering the nation’s nuclear energy future.
He emphasized that this partnership will enhance the supply of skilled individuals prepared to uphold the UAE's aspirations for a sustainable energy landscape and economic stability.
His Excellency Ibrahim Nassir, Undersecretary of DGE, remarked that this collaboration embodies a mutual dedication to nurturing Emirati talent and shaping experts for one of the nation’s crucial strategic sectors.
Such alliances are vital in actualizing the UAE’s long-term vision for delivering skilled professionals in the clean energy sector.
ENEC noted that over 2,000 Emirati professionals have significantly contributed to the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant’s operation through similar talent development programs.
Currently, the four operational units at the Barakah Plant produce 40 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, accounting for approximately 25% of the UAE's electricity needs while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
This latest partnership between ENEC and DGE aims to further solidify the UAE's standing as a frontrunner in clean energy and nuclear workforce development.
