A devastating road incident on Emirates Road in Dubai claimed the lives of seven Indian workers and left nine others injured on Monday, reported Dubai Police.
Initial investigations uncovered that a truck unexpectedly halted in the middle of the road due to a mechanical issue, leading to the minibus carrying workers colliding with the truck's rear.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, who heads Dubai Police's General Department of Traffic, mentioned that early findings suggest the minibus driver did not maintain adequate attention to the road or safety distance from the stationary vehicle.
The tragic accident resulted in seven deaths, while nine individuals were injured—five of whom suffered severe injuries, and four who sustained moderate ones. All injured parties were promptly transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed profound grief over the tragedy, stating their commitment to working in tandem with local authorities to assist the victims and their families.
Representatives from the Indian mission visited the injured in hospitals, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a quick recovery for the injured.
Dubai Police have dispatched specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section to gather evidence and clarify the circumstances of the collision.
Traffic patrol units managed to control the traffic around the scene, securing the area and allowing emergency and rescue operations. Efforts were made to remove both the truck and minibus to restore normal traffic flow.
An ongoing investigation is looking into the specifics of this tragic event.
