The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has taken a substantial step in fortifying Dubai's power distribution framework with the launch of 1,994 new 11kV substations in 2025. This represents over a 30% enhancement compared to the 1,530 substations installed in 2024.
This achievement underscores DEWA's commitment to advancing and modernizing its electrical distribution system to match Dubai's rapid urban expansion, population increases, and the heightened need for dependable energy services.
In statements, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed that the authority's infrastructural initiatives are in line with the visionary goals set by UAE leadership, consistently providing first-rate utility services while meeting future energy demands efficiently.
Al Tayer elaborated on DEWA's active efforts to grow its distribution network according to international standards, thereby supporting Dubai’s economic aspirations and addressing projected electricity usage through 2030. He reiterated that these measures aim to bolster Dubai's global appeal as a hub for living, working, and investment, in harmony with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Moreover, he highlighted DEWA’s dedication to integrating cutting-edge technologies and digital strategies in the design, implementation, and operational aspects of its distribution networks. These advancements are designed to enhance operational efficiency, ensure network reliability, and adapt services to meet evolving customer needs while aligning with Dubai’s sustainability objectives and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
Rashid Bin Humaidan, the Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, reported that the rollout of the new 11kV substations and related projects necessitated over 1.45 million work hours in 2025. He emphasized that all operations adhered to the highest health, safety, and quality benchmarks.
Bin Humaidan also noted that by the end of 2025, the total count of medium-voltage distribution substations, including 11kV and 6.6kV sites, reached 47,060. This expansion is vital for DEWA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing Dubai's electricity infrastructure, ensuring a secure, sustainable power supply for both residents and future developments.
This recent accomplishment further solidifies DEWA's vital role in supporting Dubai’s comprehensive development strategy, establishing a resilient energy network capable of accommodating future demands while maintaining exemplary service reliability and operational standards.
