The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reintroduced a notable name to their roster by signing Jason Pierre-Paul to the practice squad. This veteran edge rusher makes his return to Tampa nearly two years since his last NFL game. Pierre-Paul, instrumental in the Buccaneers’ 2020 Super Bowl victory with 9.5 sacks, joins a defensive front alongside Haason Reddick and YaYa Diaby.
In a recent statement, Pierre-Paul revealed he had been eagerly anticipating the right moment to return to the field. The 36-year-old athlete, originally drafted by the New York Giants in 2010, has had a varied career with stints at the Giants, Buccaneers, Ravens, Saints, and Dolphins, amassing an impressive tally of 94.5 sacks over 14 seasons.
Currently sharing first place in the NFC South with a 7-6 record, the Buccaneers are set to face Atlanta on Thursday night. Pierre-Paul mentioned he has been rigorously training with his personal coach and feels in peak condition, ready for his comeback.
Buccaneers coach Larry Foote affirmed that Pierre-Paul possesses qualities that cannot be taught, such as leadership and enthusiasm. Despite being out of play since December 2023, the team is optimistic about his potential contributions. Foote noted that Pierre-Paul appeared robust during workouts and continues to exhibit his athletic prowess.
As the division race heats up, the Buccaneers are banking on Pierre-Paul's experience and skills to bolster their defense in the critical weeks ahead. His addition could prove to be an essential strategic move for their playoff aspirations.
