Fighting has sharply escalated along the Afghanistan–Pakistan frontier, with the Taliban-led Afghan Air Force claiming coordinated strikes on multiple Pakistani military installations.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defence announced that precision aerial operations were carried out against several strategic targets inside Pakistan, including the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, the 12th Division headquarters in Quetta (Balochistan), and the Khwazai Camp in the Mohmand Agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, among other key facilities. Afghan officials said these strikes damaged important military infrastructure.
The Afghan government framed the operations as a response to recent Pakistani air raids inside Afghan territory, including strikes near Kabul and Bagram conducted by Pakistan’s military, which Kabul said violated its airspace and sovereignty.
The Nur Khan Airbase, located near Rawalpindi — a major Pakistan Air Force facility — was specifically highlighted as a target. Reports note that this installation had earlier been involved in previous military actions and is considered critical for Pakistan’s defence operations.
Pakistan has not yet issued a full official confirmation about the extent of damage or casualties at these sites. The situation follows weeks of tit-for-tat clashes along the shared border and marks a significant escalation in military hostilities between Afghanistan’s Taliban-controlled defence forces and Pakistan’s military.
The latest developments have raised concerns among international observers about broader regional instability and the risk of further escalation unless diplomatic de-escalation efforts progress.
