Today marks a significant cultural milestone in Abu Dhabi with the grand opening of the Zayed National Museum, representing the UAE's national heritage within the Saadiyat Cultural District. This long-awaited venue unifies centuries of culture, archaeological finds, and the narrative of the nation beneath one roof.
Guests are greeted by the 600-metre Al Masar Garden, an outdoor exhibition that introduces the profound stories to be discovered. Six permanent galleries inside reveal the UAE's history—spanning from ancient human habitation to the communities and trade routes that shaped its identity. With over 1,500 items on display, visitors can explore 300,000 years of history, featuring archaeological relics, historic artifacts, and multimedia installations.
One personal gallery is dedicated to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, chronicling his life while intertwining it with the nation's development. His ideals and vision serve as a vital framework for understanding the UAE's cultural roots, linking the seven emirates through shared heritage.
Crafted by the renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Lord Norman Foster, the museum's distinctive architecture symbolizes another landmark in a year brimming with cultural developments in the UAE. Recent openings, including teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, have solidified Saadiyat Cultural District's role as a prominent global cultural nexus.
In celebration of its inaugural month, the museum has launched a variety of performances, workshops, and family-oriented events under the theme “Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy.” Attendees can enjoy traditional Razfa and Naashat dances, poetry recitations, Taghrooda music, Nahma chants, and the Nadba mountain call, bringing Emirati traditions to life in both indoor and outdoor settings. A unique Gahwa experience curated in partnership with Bait Al Gahwa enhances the cultural offerings, while art workshops and guided tours provide immersive educational opportunities. Advance booking is required for these activities.
Visitors can also visit Al Nagwa Boutique, which features a range of gifts inspired by the museum's themes. Dining options include the standout Erth Restaurant, Al Ghaf Café, and the Garden Cafes, ensuring guests have ample opportunities to relax after exploring.
Tickets and annual memberships can be purchased via the museum's official website, marking the start of a new era in showcasing the UAE’s narrative to the world.
