Donald Trump has sparked global reactions after telling countries struggling with fuel shortages to “go get your own oil” from the Strait of Hormuz. In a social media post, the US president said nations that had not supported the United States during the Middle East conflict should not expect assistance in securing energy supplies.
Speaking in Washington DC, Trump emphasised that the US had already done much of the work to stabilise the region and weaken Iran. He suggested that other countries should now take responsibility for ensuring their own access to oil, even if it means navigating the strategically critical waterway independently.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the president’s stance, stating that the Strait of Hormuz is an international route used by many countries and should not be seen as solely America’s responsibility. He also indicated that the coming days in the conflict could be decisive, while leaving open the possibility of further military actions, including ground operations if necessary.
Amid ongoing military strikes and rising tensions, US officials said diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are still underway. However, the situation remains volatile, with thousands of targets reportedly hit in operations against Iran, raising concerns about global energy security and the broader economic impact.
