Major Train Collision Near Bratislava Injures Over 30 Passengers

Major Train Collision Near Bratislava Injures Over 30 Passengers

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A significant train collision occurred between Pezinok and Bratislava in Slovakia on Sunday, leading to numerous injuries and severe disruptions in rail services. Authorities reported that two passenger trains were involved, with the exact cause of the incident still being scrutinized.

The accident happened shortly after the departure of train REX 1814 from Pezinok towards Bratislava, which collided head-on with train Ex 620. The collision caused several carriages to derail, injuring nearly 30 individuals, some of whom needed immediate medical attention. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported.

Rail operations on this route have been suspended, with the state-owned operator ZSSK advising passengers of significant delays and potential service interruptions as engineers and emergency responders evaluate the situation. “Emergency services are currently at the scene, and some injuries have been confirmed,” ZSSK stated, underscoring their commitment to the safety of both passengers and staff.

Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok is on his way to the site to oversee rescue efforts and the investigation. ZSSK is cooperating with national railway and transport authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Passengers are being urged to avoid the affected area and look for alternative travel options. Further updates on the train service status and investigation outcomes will be provided as emergency responders work to restore the affected infrastructure and ensure safety.

This collision raises ongoing concerns regarding rail safety in Slovakia, forcing immediate action from both transport and emergency services.
