Bangkok, Thailand — Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has denied recent reports suggesting that his Bhumjaithai Party (BJT) has rejected certain veteran politicians from the Pheu Thai Party for cabinet positions, saying no formal decisions or discussions over ministerial posts have been held yet. The premier also addressed ongoing speculation about coalition negotiations as Thailand moves toward forming its next government following the 2026 general election.
In response to media reports claiming that the BJT had turned down Pheu Thai nominees such as Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Somsak Thepsuthin, Anutin reiterated that talks over cabinet allocations and coalition arrangements have not yet been concluded. He emphasised that no official talks on ministerial appointments — including which party will hold which portfolios — have taken place since the recently elected MPs await certification by the Election Commission.
The prime minister has highlighted several procedural factors delaying government formation, including the final certification of MPs and ongoing election‑related complaints. Anutin noted that once the House of Representatives convenes and MPs are officially recognised, the process of electing the speaker, selecting the prime minister and finally nominating ministerial candidates for background checks will begin.
Political sources from both the Bhumjaithai and Pheu Thai parties have suggested possible future cabinet lineups that could see figures such as Yodchanan Wongsawat, Julapun Amornvivat, Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Prasert Jantararuangtong considered for portfolios including higher education, labour and agriculture. However, party officials have stressed that no final decisions have been made and discussions remain ongoing.
The election body recently confirmed the victory of the Bhumjaithai party in the February general election, which has strengthened Anutin’s position in coalition negotiations. But questions remain over how cabinet posts will be shared among coalition partners — including the Pheu Thai Party and several smaller parties — as Thailand’s political landscape continues to evolve.
