On Tuesday night in College Station, Texas, Texas A&M delivered a remarkable performance, claiming a decisive 120-84 victory over Mississippi Valley State. The Aggies led throughout the matchup, continuing their explosive start to the season. This game marked their third outing this season surpassing the 100-point mark, a milestone they hadn’t reached in the last three years.
The total of 120 points stands as the second-highest in Texas A&M’s storied history, second only to the 127 points recorded against Houston Baptist in 1976. Mackenzie Mgbako was a standout with 19 points, contributing to a total of six players scoring in double figures, showcasing a well-rounded offensive effort. The Aggies achieved a shooting percentage of 47.1% from three-point range, sinking 16 of 34 attempts, following their impressive performance against Manhattan where they set a school record with 18 three-pointers.
Ruben Dominguez notched 15 points, including three three-pointers, while Zach Clemence also hit a personal high with 15 points. Jamie Vinson added 12 points alongside six rebounds, and Marcus Hill contributed 11 points, achieving a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Josh Holloway rounded out the scoring with 10 points and four assists, emphasizing Texas A&M’s strength in teamwork and depth.
For Mississippi Valley State, Michael James stood out with a strong performance, scoring 32 points with an impressive 7 of 10 from beyond the arc. Samuel Murray added 13 points while Lamont Sams chipped in 10 points. However, the Delta Devils struggled with 31 turnovers, which Texas A&M capitalized on for 46 points. This defeat marks the sixth consecutive loss for Mississippi Valley State this season.
Texas A&M’s success wasn’t limited to scoring; their defensive strategy was equally formidable. By forcing turnovers and maintaining a high tempo, the Aggies kept up the pressure on Mississippi Valley State throughout the game, controlling its pace from start to finish.
In the first half, Rashaun Agee suffered a facial injury with 13:56 remaining, receiving attention from team trainers before returning to the bench. Despite this disruption, the Aggies maintained their momentum and energy throughout.
With this victory, Texas A&M elevated their record to 5-2, extending their winning streak to three games. Their combination of high-scoring offense and solid defense poises the team for a strong season ahead, with multiple players contributing to their success, making the Aggies a formidable opponent.
