Manila, November 4, 2025 — A Philippine military Super Huey on a humanitarian flight crashed in northern Mindanao on Tuesday, officials said. The aircraft was heading to the coastal city of Butuan when it went down under circumstances that have not yet been disclosed.
The Eastern Mindanao Command said the chopper was operating "in support of relief operations" at the time. Search-and-recovery teams were immediately deployed, but authorities have not confirmed how many people were aboard or whether there were any casualties.
The Super Huey is a staple of the Philippine Air Force, often pressed into service for disaster response and troop transport. The loss comes amid widespread flooding and power outages from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which has forced thousands from their homes across central and southern Philippines.
Photos from Cebu and neighbouring provinces show streets submerged and homes under water as rescue crews race to deliver aid. The military said it will continue relief flights, with additional aircraft brought in to sustain operations despite the setback.
Officials added that more information will be released after recovery teams complete their work and families of those aboard have been notified.
