On Sunday, the Phoenix Suns secured a decisive 111-102 win against the San Antonio Spurs, marking their third consecutive victory. Dillon Brooks stood out, notching 25 points, including four from beyond the arc out of the team’s 14 three-pointers. Devin Booker also made a significant contribution with 24 points, leading the Suns to their 10th win in just 12 games this season.
Jordan Goodwin made an impressive debut, achieving his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds while starting in place of Ryan Dunn, who is sidelined with a sprained wrist. Mark Williams added valuable support with 14 points and 11 rebounds, effectively influencing both offense and defense. Off the bench, Collin Gillespie provided vital additional scoring with 15 points and six assists.
For the Spurs, De’Aaron Fox led the scoring with 26 points, while Devin Vassell contributed 17 points. Julian Champagnie rounded out the effort with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. This defeat marked the end of San Antonio’s three-game winning streak, which had gained momentum following Victor Wembanyama’s injury in a loss to Golden State on November 14.
The contest began intensely, with the Spurs leading by 11 late in the first half. However, the Suns took charge in the third quarter, driven by Booker’s 11 points and Williams’ 10 in a 37-point quarter, resulting in an 86-80 lead. Gillespie's three-pointer in the early fourth quarter pushed the Suns’ lead to 96-84. Brooks sealed the game with a jumper, making it 110-97, as the Spurs couldn’t narrow the gap to less than eight points thereafter.
Phoenix shot 44.3% from the field, successfully converting 14 of 38 three-point attempts. The Suns have now consistently made at least 10 three-pointers in every game this season, including 14 in their last three outings. This victory also completed a season sweep over the Spurs, who had previously fallen 130-118 to Phoenix earlier this season, ending their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, the Spurs battled hard, converting 17 free throws and winning the rebounding battle 50-43. Notable moments included Goodwin’s early scoring spree and the Spurs’ effective dunks from Luke Kornet, Champagnie, and Jeremy Sochan, which contributed to a 45-34 lead. Vassell’s three-pointer kept the Spurs up 62-52 before Phoenix launched an 11-0 run to regain control.
This game showcased the Suns’ balanced scoring strategy and teamwork, with Brooks, Booker, Williams, and Goodwin all playing essential roles. Their ability to sustain a solid lead and perform under pressure in the final moments was key to overcoming a determined Spurs team.
This win underscores the Suns’ outstanding performance both at home and on the road, boosting their confidence as they strive to maintain a strong position in the Western Conference. Their mix of accurate shooting, defensive resilience, and collective effort positions them as one of the top contenders in the league this season.
