Sharjah to Enhance Road Infrastructure with New Projects

Sharjah to Enhance Road Infrastructure with New Projects

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a significant move to bolster its transportation system, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has greenlit two pivotal road enhancement initiatives aimed at alleviating traffic challenges within the emirate.

The first initiative focuses on a crucial 5-kilometre segment of the Sharjah Ring Road adjacent to the Etihad Rail station, with an investment of AED 90 million. This upgrade seeks to relieve the congestion burdens on Mleiha Road, which has experienced rising traffic levels owing to the growing population and new projects in the vicinity. Included in this plan is the expansion of the University City Bridge to feature four lanes—two for each direction—thereby improving access and easing flow towards Rakan Bridge.

The second initiative involves the construction of a new bridge near the Martyrs' Monument in Sharjah, which has been allocated a budget of AED 60 million. When finished, this bridge will facilitate a direct route for traffic from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road. It will also benefit drivers traveling from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Maliha Road, lessening the necessity for extended detours. The contemporary design of the bridge is poised to enhance the aesthetic of one of the city’s notable landmarks.

These projects underscore Sharjah’s dedication to reinforcing its infrastructure in line with its continuous growth. They are expected to mitigate congestion, boost safety, and reduce travel times across key districts, thus fostering more efficient movement for both residents and commuters.
