The renowned music mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs, will spend an extended time in federal custody, with his release date now officially updated. Originally slated for May 8, 2028, the 56-year-old is now expected to be released on June 4, 2028, following a 50-month sentence for prostitution-related offenses. Federal authorities have not clarified the rationale behind this nearly month-long delay.
Timeline of Conviction and Sentencing
In July 2024, Combs faced federal charges related to prostitution transportation, resulting in a 50-month prison sentence handed down in October 2024. He has been in federal custody since September 2024, starting at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn before his transfer to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Prison Incidents Faced
Reports indicate that during his initial week at Fort Dix, Combs was discovered with homemade alcohol crafted from Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. Although there were discussions about possibly transferring him to another unit due to the incident, no such measures were ultimately taken.
His spokesperson categorically rejected any claims of rules violations, affirming that Combs prioritizes his discipline and sobriety while incarcerated.
Additionally, Combs was allegedly involved in a three-way phone call, which contravenes Bureau of Prisons regulations if another party joins mid-call. His representatives clarified that the call included legal counsel and fell under attorney-client privilege.
Legal Appeals and Prison Programs
Currently at FCI Fort Dix, Combs is participating in a drug-treatment initiative and is employed in the chapel library, according to his legal team. They have also announced intentions to appeal his sentence, arguing that Judge Arun Subramanian overstepped his jurisdiction during the October sentencing session.
Despite prosecutors advocating for an 11-year sentence, the jury acquitted Combs of sex-trafficking and racketeering charges. His lawyers had sought a significantly reduced sentence, closer to 14 months.
With a revised release date of June 4, 2028, any further changes will be announced by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on a case-by-case basis. Combs' ongoing legal battles and appeals may still impact the length of his imprisonment.
