On Monday, Chuck Schumer, the Democratic leader, disclosed that three of his offices in New York state received bomb threat emails alleging that the “2020 election was rigged.” The messages, titled “MAGA,” targeted locations in Rochester, Binghamton, and Long Island.
Schumer stated on social media that both local and federal agencies acted promptly, conducting thorough security checks at all affected offices. He assured that staff and visitors were safe, expressing gratitude to law enforcement for their quick action in securing the premises.
A law enforcement source, who preferred to remain nameless due to the ongoing investigation, confirmed that Suffolk County police assessed the situation at Schumer’s Long Island office but withheld further details about the threat.
The US Capitol Police refrained from commenting on specifics, citing standard protocols which prevent discussions about Congress security measures.
Schumer firmly condemned the alarming increase in political intimidation within the country, emphasizing that violence and threats compromise American democracy. “No public servant, staffer, constituent, or citizen should face harassment simply for fulfilling their roles,” he remarked.
These threats reflect the continuing political strife fueled by unfounded claims of a stolen 2020 presidential election—a narrative perpetuated by Donald Trump, even after numerous court decisions debunked such assertions. All 50 states validated the election outcomes, and many lawsuits filed by Trump and his supporters failed to present credible evidence of widespread fraud.
In a related event, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani also condemned the threats while advocating for Starbucks workers. He cautioned that normalizing political violence sets a perilous precedent for the nation and urged individuals from all political affiliations to denounce such acts.
