Tensions surged on Tuesday with a series of fatal incidents in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, raising alarms about the fragile ceasefire that has been in effect since early October.
In southern Gaza, a journalist named Mohamed Wadi was killed by an Israeli drone strike in Khan Younis, as reported by medical personnel at Nasser Hospital. Wadi, known for his drone footage, is among a tragic number of Palestinian journalists who have died during the ongoing conflict.
That same day, a man was shot dead near the eastern section of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, according to Al-Awda Hospital.
The Gaza Health Ministry reports over 350 Palestinians have died in the territory since the ceasefire took effect on October 11, pausing the hostilities between Israel and Hamas. Israel did not provide comments on the day's fatalities but previously asserted these incidents are often linked to militant actions.
Both parties, Israel and Hamas, continue to accuse one another of ceasefire breaches, sustaining high tensions in the densely populated area.
In the occupied West Bank, violence flared as Israeli forces killed a suspect alleged to have stabbed two soldiers near the settlement of Ateret, north of Ramallah. Israel's Mada rescue service confirmed the soldiers were lightly injured.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported the death of an 18-year-old Palestinian in that area, though it remains unclear if it was in connection with the same incident.
Further south, in Hebron, Israeli troops shot a 17-year-old Palestinian accused of a car-ramming attack that injured a soldier. The military claimed the suspect attempted to flee during his detainment and posed a danger to the forces.
Since Hamas’ attack on October 7 last year, the Israeli army has amplified operations across the West Bank. Palestinians assert that many fatalities from these operations are civilians, protesters, or individuals uninvolved in violence.
In recent weeks, incidents of settler aggression towards Palestinian communities have intensified, aggravating the already tense situation.
Tensions escalated further as Israeli forces demolished the home of Abdul Karim Sanoubar in Nablus on Tuesday. Sanoubar, currently in custody, faces accusations of planting explosives on buses in central Israel earlier this year. The demolition led to the evacuation of 13 nearby residences, with smoke engulfing the area as the home crumbled.
Cross-border exchanges also intensified in the north, with Israel conducting another series of strikes on southern Lebanon, continuing a trend of nearly daily confrontations amid accusations against Hezbollah of breaching last year’s U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
