Reagan National Temporarily Grounded After Bomb Threat on United Flight

Reagan National Temporarily Grounded After Bomb Threat on United Flight

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Flights at Ronald Reagan National Airport were temporarily paused Tuesday after authorities received a bomb threat involving a United Airlines flight that had originated in Houston. The warning triggered an immediate safety response and halted incoming and outgoing traffic while checks were carried out.

Officials said the plane was directed to a secured area of the airfield. Passengers were evacuated there and transported back to the terminal by bus, while airport security and law enforcement teams conducted a systematic investigation to rule out any danger.

Operations at the airport returned to normal around 1:30 p.m. ET after officials concluded there was no active threat. Federal authorities praised the fast, coordinated work of local police, airport staff and federal agencies in managing the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that departing flights faced average delays near 51 minutes during the interruption, with several flights experiencing delays exceeding two hours.

The brief shutdown added to travel pressures already affecting airports nationwide, where some operational disruptions have been linked to the broader effects of the ongoing partial government shutdown. Many air traffic controllers are continuing to work without pay while coping with heavier workloads.

The rapid containment and resolution at Ronald Reagan National highlighted the effectiveness of established emergency procedures and inter-agency coordination in safeguarding passengers and restoring normal flight operations.
