The action-comedy Chandni Chowk To China, directed by Nikkhil Advani and featuring stars like Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone, underperformed at the box office. Actor Ranvir Shorey has publicly criticized the film's director and producer for its lackluster showing in a recent interview.
Shorey remarked that the script held potential, but the execution fell short. He stated, “A good script deserves a better realization; any deficiency lies with the producer and director,” highlighting accountability in the filmmaking process.
Back in 2021, director Nikkhil Advani shared his own insights on the film’s plight, mentioning, “There were too many voices directing the film. Akshay and I found ourselves tugging it in one way, while Ramesh Sippy and others had different visions. Eventually, I felt overwhelmed and let go.”
The film, released in 2009, starred Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone, alongside notable names like Mithun Chakraborty and Ranvir Shorey. The storyline follows Sidhu, a Delhi cook mistaken for a legendary Chinese warrior. Despite a mixed critical reception, it managed to gross ₹53.45 crore against a budget of ₹65 crore.
