While the stunning Dhauladhar mountains typically capture attention at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, it was Rajat Patidar who stole the spotlight on Tuesday night, delivering an extraordinary performance that propelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the IPL final.
Patidar, the captain, played a sensational innings, scoring an unbeaten 93 runs off just 33 balls, helping RCB secure victory over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. His aggressive knock featured five fours and nine sixes, showcasing a remarkable strike rate of 281.82.
With this victory, the reigning champions RCB have advanced to their second consecutive IPL final, reinforcing their ambition to reclaim the title.
Patidar has demonstrated an impressive record in IPL playoff games, amassing 338 runs over six innings at an average of 112.66 and a strike rate of 193.14, which includes one century and two half-centuries.
His remarkable 112 against Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 Eliminator is often cited as one of RCB's finest innings in IPL history.
At 32, Patidar has emerged as a formidable slugger in IPL playoffs, hitting 24 sixes, second only to legends like Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and Kieron Pollard in playoff history.
This season, Patidar is enjoying the peak of his IPL career, scoring 486 runs in 13 innings at an average of 44.18 and a strike rate of 196.76. His performance includes five fifties, with a highest score of 93 not out, alongside 41 sixes and 29 fours.
Following the match, Patidar commended his team’s aggressive approach.
“It was an incredible game for us. The batsmen showed positive intent, which truly aided our performance,” he remarked.
He revealed the team's strategy was centered around confidence and taking the initiative from the outset.
“We focused on having strong body language and an attacking mindset, as it was a significant match. The way we controlled the game was terrific,” Patidar added.
Describing his batting style, Patidar shared that he prefers to spend several balls gauging the pitch before launching an attack.
“I typically take about 8-10 balls to understand the pitch before putting pressure on the bowlers,” he explained.
Glenn Phillips of GT also acknowledged Patidar’s innings, labeling him a formidable player in form.
“He’s an exceptional player. Once he gets going, it's tough to halt him. He knows his strengths and plays with total confidence,” noted Phillips.
RCB now aims to carry their momentum into the IPL final, with the winner of Qualifier 1 historically clinching the IPL title 12 out of 15 times—something for Patidar and his team to build on as they approach the final.
