Abu Dhabi Gears Up for the 2025 International Shotgun Championship

Abu Dhabi Gears Up for the 2025 International Shotgun Championship

Post by : Maya Rahman

Preparations for the Abu Dhabi International Shotgun Championship have reached their final stage. Scheduled from December 1 to 4, 2025, the event will unfold at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club. Anticipation is high as some of the world’s finest shooters compete for prestigious awards. The organisers have confirmed readiness to welcome global athletes in a professionally managed venue.

Under the patronage of the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Ain Region, the event is organised in collaboration with the UAE Shooting Federation and the International Federation of Sport Shooting and Hunting. During a press conference on November 23, the Higher Organising Committee outlined comprehensive details about organisation progress and expectations for the competition.

The Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee expressed gratitude to the national leadership for their ongoing support of sports and athletes in the UAE. He emphasized the substantial backing from senior officials that contributes to making this championship a significant international event, showcasing the country's commitment to enhancing sports and cementing its reputation in competitive shooting.

Officials revealed that total prize money for the event amounts to $400,000, exceeding AED 1.5 million, to be shared among winners across various categories. Over 300 shooters from more than 30 countries are set to compete, making this one of the most challenging editions yet. Approximately 30 UAE shooters will also participate, highlighting the nation’s expanding sporting talent.

This year, female representation has grown to around 10%, showing a promising increase in women's involvement in shooting sports. The organisers noted that high registration figures indicate the growing fame of the event and the trust international athletes place in the UAE’s hosting capabilities for large-scale competitions.

The organising committee acknowledged all strategic partners, including national sports entities, local authorities, and support organisations, for their collaborative efforts which ensured effective planning, logistics, and security. Officials stated that this collaboration greatly contributes to hosting an event that showcases the UAE’s high organisational standards.

Notably, the championship coincides with the 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations. The organisers emphasized that shooting is a significant part of Emirati heritage, culture, and history. This event not only supports sports but also honours traditional values related to hunting and defence—essential elements of the national identity.

Hosting the event in Al Ain reflects the city's emerging role as a regional sports and tourism hub. Officials mentioned that the championship bolsters the UAE’s international standing and demonstrates the confidence global federations have in the country’s advanced infrastructure and management skills.

The final day of the competition will feature a special program entitled the “Abu Dhabi Silver Awards,” with a prize pool exceeding AED 100,000, intensifying excitement and fostering greater competition among participants.

The tournament director indicated that the venue has been active for weeks as teams complete final preparations to ensure everything is set. Shooters are slated to arrive on November 25, with official training sessions from November 27 to 30, leading up to the competition's commencement on December 1 after the draw.

Boasting over 300 competitors, substantial prize money, and strong international interest, the Abu Dhabi International Shotgun Championship is poised to be a landmark sporting event. This underscores the UAE’s dedication to hosting premier international competitions and providing world-class facilities for athletes.
