GOA – On October 20, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Deepavali with military personnel aboard INS Vikrant, celebrating India's strides in eliminating Maoism and fostering national development. In an open letter to the public, PM Modi described this Deepavali as particularly significant, stating that lights will now illuminate remote districts previously plagued by Naxalism and Maoist violence. He underscored that the defeat of Maoism is a pivotal achievement for the country, symbolizing India's dedication to peace, progress, and security.
“This marks the first occasion where lamps will shine in many districts, including those previously affected by Naxalism and Maoist terrorism. Lives are being transformed as many choose development over violence, reaffirming their faith in our Constitution. This is a monumental achievement for our nation,” PM Modi noted. His comments reflect India’s success in reviving conflict-riddled areas and reinforcing law and order. He stated that Operation Sindoor exemplifies the values of Lord Ram, showcasing the resolve to combat injustice and uphold righteousness, further cementing India’s stance against homegrown threats.
The Prime Minister called upon citizens to adopt Swadeshi principles and actively participate in national responsibilities. He urged everyone to support local products, honor diverse languages, maintain cleanliness, prioritize health, cut oil consumption by 10%, and practice Yoga. “These actions will swiftly steer us toward a ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he remarked. PM Modi's appeal aligns with the government’s broader vision of self-sufficiency, cultural heritage, and comprehensive national development. He views the Swadeshi movement as crucial to stimulating economic advancement, empowering local enterprises, and ensuring a sustainable future.
Additionally, PM Modi underscored the government’s landmark move to lower Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, describing it as a significant milestone in delivering financial relief to citizens. “On the inaugural day of Navratri, reduced GST rates were put into effect. During this ‘GST Bachat Utsav,’ citizens are saving billions,” he affirmed. The Prime Minister highlighted that these tax reforms significantly benefit millions across India, fostering economic stability and advancing the nation’s long-term developmental objectives.
In his communication, PM Modi also underlined India's escalating global stature, asserting that even amidst worldwide adversities, Bharat has emerged as a beacon of stability and compassion. He expressed optimism that India is poised to become the third-largest economy globally in the foreseeable future. Through an emphasis on economic reforms, national security accomplishments, and cultural values, PM Modi's Deepavali message poignantly reinforced a narrative of progress, resilience, and solidarity among all Indians.
