The Odia music scene has lost a bright star as renowned playback singer Humane Sagar passed away on November 17 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. At just 34 years of age, his sudden demise sent shockwaves across Odisha, leaving fans and fellow musicians heartbroken.
In the wake of the announcement, an Instagram post that Humane had shared just days before his death gained immense traction online. Uploaded on November 7, the video showcased him performing his beloved track “Bhagya Rekha.” Nostalgic fans flocked to the footage, leaving heartfelt comments like “RIP” and “We miss you,” cherishing this as a final tribute to his vibrant spirit.
Decline in Health and Hospitalization
Following a steady decline in health, Sagar was hospitalized at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on October 14. His condition fluctuated initially but worsened significantly over time. Medical professionals were treating him for various severe conditions—including bilateral pneumonia and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF)—but despite intensive care, he succumbed to multi-organ failure, passing away at 9:08 pm on November 17.
Tributes from Fans
Fans leveraged the virality of his November 7 Instagram reel to express disbelief and sadness. Many left prayers, warm messages, and fond reflections on Sagar's remarkable contributions to the Odia music industry over the last decade. Numerous comments lamented that he had been “taken too soon.”
Just two days prior to his passing, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to social media to voice his concerns, stating, “I am saddened to hear that the celebrated singer Humane Sagar is hospitalized. I pray for his speedy recovery… Wishing you well, Humane Sagar.”
A Musical Legacy
Humane Sagar first entered the music spotlight with the title track from “Ishq Hi Tu,” created by composer Abhijit Majumdar. Over time, he established an expansive collection of beloved hits, such as “Tuma Otha Tale” and “Chehera.” He also ventured into Hindi music with the album “Mera Yeh Jahan.”
