In a thrilling encounter on Monday night, the Denver Nuggets triumphed over the Memphis Grizzlies with a score of 125-115, halting Memphis’ two-game winning streak. The Nuggets showcased a spectacular team effort, particularly from Jamal Murray, Peyton Watson, and Nikola Jokic, who rose to the occasion in the crucial moments of the fourth quarter.
Murray led all scorers with 29 points, displaying deft shooting from long distance and delivering pivotal shots as the game wound down. Watson also shone brightly with a personal best of 27 points, demonstrating sharp cuts and impactful drives, as well as connecting on critical outside shots. Meanwhile, Jokic was magnificent, achieving a triple-double with 17 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds, showcasing his playmaking skills that helped dictate the game flow.
A significant factor in the game was Denver’s shooting prowess. They drained 22 three-pointers, marking their season high, which allowed them to maintain the lead even when Memphis attempted a comeback. Murray made six threes, while Watson contributed five, boosting the Nuggets’ confidence during critical moments.
The Grizzlies fought valiantly in the second half, narrowing the lead to just five points after a powerful 12-0 run. During this stretch, Memphis’ defense solidified, creating offensive opportunities that energized the home crowd, particularly after a four-point play by Cam Johnson.
Nevertheless, Denver maintained composure. Murray sank two crucial threes in the final stretch, and Jokic dazzled with a behind-the-back assist to Watson for a layup that put the Nuggets ahead 121-112, effectively clinching the game and showcasing Jokic's creative passing ability.
On the Grizzlies’ side, Jock Landale excelled with a career-equaling 26 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, providing crucial energy throughout the match. Jaylen Wells supported with 22 points and Cam Spencer contributed 18. Despite their efforts, Memphis struggled to keep pace with Denver's all-around attack.
Memphis did suffer a setback with Zach Edey exiting the game due to a head injury after an accidental elbow from Jokic, complicating their defensive strategy. While Jaren Jackson Jr. made a return from injury to score 16 points, it wasn't enough to counter Denver’s potent offense.
The Nuggets played without Aaron Gordon due to a right hamstring strain, but demonstrated excellent teamwork and resilience, cementing their reputation as one of the league’s toughest teams.
With this victory, the Nuggets improved their record and built momentum, while the Grizzlies aim to regroup ahead of their next matchup.
