North Korea Fires Missiles Toward Sea

North Korea Fires Missiles Toward Sea

Post by : Shakul

North Korea has launched several suspected ballistic missiles toward the sea off its eastern coast, raising fresh security concerns in the Asia-Pacific region. According to South Korea’s military, around 10 missiles were fired from the Sunan area near Pyongyang and landed in waters toward the Sea of Japan (East Sea).

The launches were detected by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and Japan’s defense authorities. Officials said the projectiles traveled hundreds of kilometers before falling into the sea, outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, and no damage was reported.

The missile tests took place during the annual joint military exercises conducted by the United States and South Korea, known as the Freedom Shield drills. The two allies describe the exercises as defensive operations designed to maintain military readiness against potential threats from Pyongyang.

North Korea, however, strongly opposes these drills and frequently labels them as preparations for an invasion. Analysts say the missile launches appear to be a show of force and a warning to Washington and Seoul amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.

Japanese authorities issued an alert after detecting the launch, while monitoring systems tracked the missiles’ trajectory. South Korea said its military has strengthened surveillance and readiness in case of additional tests or military activity.

North Korea has faced multiple international sanctions since 2006 due to its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. Despite this, the country continues to test advanced missile systems as part of its defense strategy.

Security experts warn that repeated missile launches risk escalating tensions in East Asia, particularly as diplomatic efforts to resume dialogue between Pyongyang, Washington and Seoul remain uncertain.
