Netflix Highlights ‘Netflix Effect’: $135 Billion in Global Content Investment

Netflix Highlights ‘Netflix Effect’: $135 Billion in Global Content Investment

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a significant announcement, Netflix revealed its investment of over $135 billion in films and series over the past decade, reinforcing its powerful role in the global streaming landscape.

This investment has led to an impressive contribution of more than $325 billion to the international economy, creating more than 425,000 jobs within the entertainment industry.

Headquartered in Los Gatos, California, Netflix stands as one of the world's largest video streaming services, boasting over 325 million paid subscribers by the end of 2025. The platform is renowned for revolutionizing home entertainment and creating original content that achieves global acclaim.

Unveiling its latest initiative dubbed the “Netflix Effect,” the platform aims to shed light on the economic, cultural, and social repercussions of its films and series.

“We are excited to announce the launch of the Netflix Effect—a thorough exploration of the economic, cultural, and social effects our films and series have, influencing economies, industries, and daily life,” said co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

Additionally, Netflix disclosed that it has collaborated with over 3,000 companies, including public broadcasters around the globe.

A notable trend in viewing preferences was also pointed out; non-English language titles now constitute over one-third of total viewership, a significant increase from less than 10% a decade prior. International sensations like Money Heist, Squid Game, and KPop Demon Hunters have propelled this growth.

On the leadership front, co-founder Reed Hastings resigned from his position last month. The company is now emphasizing new avenues for expansion, including gaming and live entertainment, while navigating slower revenue growth in certain areas of its operations.
