Captain Mitchell Marsh delivered a sensational unbeaten 103 off just 52 balls, guiding Australia to a thrilling three-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third and final T20 International at Mount Maunganui on Saturday. Marsh’s innings featured seven towering sixes, marking his maiden T20I century and securing Australia’s 2-0 series triumph.
Australia had already won the opener by six wickets, and with the second match abandoned due to rain, the series win also meant they retained the prestigious Chappell-Hadlee Trophy.
New Zealand, batting first, managed 156-9 in their allotted 20 overs after a shaky start. Josh Hazlewood struck early, dismissing Devon Conway and Tim Robinson within the first five overs. Opener Tim Seifert top-scored with 48, supported by Michael Bracewell (26) and Jimmy Neesham (25) to push New Zealand past the 150-run mark.

Australia’s bowling attack was led by Sean Abbott, who claimed 3-25, while Xavier Bartlett contributed with two crucial wickets. New Zealand fought back with Neesham (4-26) wreaking havoc on Australia’s top order, leaving five of the top six Australian batters in single digits.
Despite the top-order collapse, Marsh’s brilliant innings turned the game on its head. Needing just 50 balls to reach his century, he carried Australia to victory with two overs to spare.
Reflecting on the match, Marsh said, “It was a little pressure in the end, but it’s fantastic to win an away series in New Zealand. I loved our intent with the bat, and that’s exactly how we are playing at the moment.” Marsh was also named player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament for his outstanding performance.
Australia’s T20 squad showcased resilience and explosive batting power, underlining their dominance in the series and setting a strong tone for upcoming international fixtures.
