Telugu actress and producer Lakshmi Manchu has shared a distressing story from her teenage years, recounting an incident of inappropriate touching when she was just 15. The event left a deep impression, marking her psychologically during her formative years.
In an open discussion, Lakshmi revealed she had a sheltered upbringing, typically accompanied to school by a driver and bodyguard. However, one day, she had to take public transport alone to retrieve her exam hall tickets, leading to the unsettling encounter.
“The violation I experienced... it was such an ugly feeling. I was only 15, and I wondered if they realized I was just a child. I chose to walk away instead of confronting them. When I talked about it with my friends, they shared similar experiences. This isn’t something that happens only to me; it’s a common occurrence,” she revealed.
Lakshmi also mentioned societal expectations about keeping silent, particularly for those from affluent families. “People often assume that those from prominent backgrounds won’t speak up about such issues. If there’s a theft at home, I can’t just go public about it. We are raised to be discreet; if something goes missing, you don’t want to bring attention to it unnecessarily,” she explained.
Reflecting on the MeToo movement, Lakshmi described how it was a turning point for her. She emotionally recounted reading accounts of others’ experiences, realizing that many were similar to what she had faced.
Lakshmi launched her acting career in the American series Las Vegas and has had appearances in various shows like Desperate Housewives. Apart from this, she has appeared in advertisements for prominent brands such as Toyota and Chevrolet.
As the daughter of Telugu legend Mohan Babu, Lakshmi has achieved significant acclaim, winning multiple awards for her performances. She has also recently been featured on the reality show The Traitors, further establishing her career in the entertainment landscape.
Through her honest account, Lakshmi Manchu shines a light on the universal issue of harassment, emphasizing how it affects individuals from all backgrounds and urging society to address these concerns openly.
