Kasim Khan, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has raised serious concerns about his father’s treatment in Adiala Jail, claiming that the former leader has been kept under “inhumane isolation,” which he says is not part of any standard security protocol. The allegations come amid widespread rumors and speculation online about Imran Khan’s health and well-being, including unfounded reports that he had died in custody.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kasim Khan highlighted that it has been 845 days since his father was imprisoned. Over the past six weeks, he said, Imran Khan has been confined alone in what is described as a “death cell,” without any communication with family members. Kasim stressed that despite clear court orders, his sisters have been barred from visiting, and neither he nor his brother have been able to contact their father.
Kasim Khan condemned the treatment, saying the complete isolation is a deliberate attempt to hide his father’s condition and prevent the family from knowing about his safety. He warned that the Pakistani government and those responsible will bear full legal, moral, and international accountability for his father’s security and any consequences arising from this inhumane confinement.
He also appealed to the international community and human rights organisations to intervene. His demands include confirmation that Imran Khan is alive, adherence to court-ordered access, an immediate end to solitary confinement, and the release of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, whom he described as imprisoned solely for political reasons.
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, also confirmed the family has faced repeated difficulties in meeting him. She said that in the past six to seven months, family visits have often been denied, with meetings allowed sporadically and sometimes cancelled without notice, causing significant distress to the family.
The Adiala Jail authorities, however, rejected claims of ill-treatment and rumors about Imran Khan’s death. In a statement, they confirmed that the former Prime Minister is in “completely good health” and is receiving all necessary care. They also dismissed reports about his transfer to another facility as baseless.
Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and faces multiple charges, which he claims are politically motivated. In January, he was convicted in a corruption case and sentenced to 14 years, while his wife received a seven-year sentence. His political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had earlier alleged that he was being kept in solitary confinement in a death cell even before his conviction, further raising concerns about his treatment in prison.
This controversy has reignited debates about the treatment of political leaders in Pakistan and drawn attention from national and international human rights observers, as family members and supporters continue to demand proof of life and fair treatment for Imran Khan.
