Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 continues to make waves at the Indian box office, emerging as one of the biggest hits of 2025. Released on October 2, the film has impressed audiences with its mix of mythological action, cultural storytelling, and Shetty’s powerful performance as a fearless warrior.
The movie enjoyed an outstanding second weekend, earning ₹39 crore on Saturday and ₹39.75 crore on Sunday, bringing the weekend total to ₹100 crore. Collections slowed slightly on Monday to ₹13.50 crore, but the domestic total has now reached an impressive ₹451.90 crore.
Kantara Chapter 1 has surpassed several major films, including Rajinikanth’s Jailer (₹348.55 crore), Baahubali: The Beginning (₹420 crore), Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (₹406 crore), and Saiyaara (₹329 crore). However, it still trails Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, with ₹601.54 crore.
Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the movie features Rishab Shetty alongside Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah. Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, the story explores the origins of the Buta Kola ritual and serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara.
Critics and audiences have praised the film for its gripping narrative, stunning visuals, and Shetty’s direction. The movie has resonated widely, with viewers admiring its authentic cultural representation and high-energy action sequences.
With strong word-of-mouth and an expanding fan base, Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate theaters, proving that well-made regional films can compete with pan-India blockbusters.
