Speaking about the film, Rishab Shetty emphasized that his intention was purely storytelling, without any political or ideological agenda. “As a storyteller, I always think, I should never be biased, and that we should tell stories to people, like about our folklore, Bharatiyata, and our belief system of nature worshipping. So by adding all these elements we made this story,” Rishab said. “Irrespective of all parties and people, there is no ideology or agenda in this film, we are just establishing this story, and people are liking and appreciating it.”
The cultural impact of the film has also been noticed on social media. A post comparing the Dev culture of the Himalayas to the traditions depicted in Kantara Chapter 1 went viral. The post praised the film for accurately portraying South Indian tribal traditions and the deep connection people have with local deities. Actor Kangana Ranaut responded, appreciating the movie and highlighting its significance, writing, “Very nice, such films can be crucial for stopping tribal conversion also.”
Kantara Chapter 1 is the prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara and is set in pre-colonial Karnataka. The film stars Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, and tells the story of a tribal man named Berme who fights against aristocratic oppression. Its rich storytelling, engaging performances, and celebration of regional folklore have contributed to the film’s immense popularity.
As Kantara Chapter 1 continues its box office journey, it is clear that Indian audiences are embracing films that combine cultural authenticity with strong narrative and entertainment value. Rishab Shetty’s film has not only broken box office records but also created a lasting impact on Indian cinema by highlighting folklore, tribal traditions, and a story that resonates with viewers across regions.
