Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 continues to make waves at the box office, breaking records in both India and overseas. The Kannada period action film has now crossed ₹414 crore worldwide, surpassing the lifetime collection of the original Kantara and becoming the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind only KGF Chapter 1.
Strong Box Office Performance in India
Kantara Chapter 1 had a powerful opening weekend in India, drawing large audiences to theatres. The momentum continued through the weekdays with only a slight drop on Monday, followed by an increase in collections on Tuesday. Within the first six days, the film has earned ₹290.25 crore net (₹348 crore gross) in India, demonstrating the sustained popularity of the movie among Kannada audiences.
International Collections
The film’s overseas performance has also been notable. Kantara Chapter 1 has collected over $7 million from international markets in its first six days. With these earnings, the film’s global box office total stands at ₹414 crore, even before completing its first week.
Surpassing Other Major Hits
This remarkable success has allowed Kantara Chapter 1 to surpass several recent blockbuster films. It has overtaken Kamal Haasan’s Vikram (₹413 crore) and the Bollywood horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹411 crore) in worldwide collections. Additionally, the film has now exceeded the lifetime earnings of the first Kantara film (₹408 crore). While KGF Chapter 1, with ₹1,250 crore worldwide, still holds the top spot, Kantara Chapter 1 is firmly establishing itself as a major Kannada cinema milestone.
About Kantara Chapter 1
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara. Set 1,000 years before the events of the first film, it tells the story of the people of Kantara defending their land and resources against a neighboring kingdom. The film features strong performances by Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
Critics and audiences have praised the movie for its engaging storyline, thrilling action sequences, and strong performances, highlighting it as a standout in contemporary Kannada cinema.
Significance in Kannada and Indian Cinema
The success of Kantara Chapter 1 showcases the growing influence of Kannada cinema on the national stage. It also demonstrates the audience’s appetite for period action dramas with strong storytelling. Analysts believe that if the film continues its momentum, it could challenge more national records and become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year.
Rishab Shetty’s directorial and acting prowess, combined with the film’s rich narrative and cinematic visuals, have contributed to its box office dominance, both in India and overseas. With the strong first-week collections, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to continue attracting large audiences, solidifying its position as a blockbuster in Indian cinema.
