Jordan’s national squad, known as Al-Nashama, kicked off their 2025 Arab Cup campaign with an electrifying 2–1 victory against the UAE at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha. The match was packed with drama, featuring penalties, a red card, and rapid second-half action.
From the first whistle, the tension was palpable. Jordan came out strong, and their early momentum paid off in the 20th minute when Yazan Al-Naimat was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty kick converted confidently by Ali Alwan, putting Jordan ahead 1–0. This incident also proved costly for the UAE, as defender Khalid Ibrahim received a direct red card, leaving them a man down for the rest of the match.
Despite having the numerical advantage, Jordan squandered a chance to extend their lead before halftime. A foul on Al-Naimat by the UAE goalkeeper in the 39th minute awarded another penalty to Jordan, but Alwan’s second attempt went wide, ending the first half at 1–0.
The UAE came back strong after halftime, equalizing just two minutes in with a goal from Bruno Oliveira in the 47th minute, shifting the dynamics of the game.
However, Jordan quickly regained control, and in the 63rd minute, Yazan Al-Naimat scored again, sealing the deal for Jordan and ensuring all three points. The extra man allowed Jordan to dictate the pace through the final moments of the match.
This victory places Jordan at the top of their group, which includes Egypt, Kuwait, and the UAE, setting an encouraging precedent for their Arab Cup ambitions.
