At the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to deepen bilateral collaboration between India and the UK. Their dialogue reaffirmed the India-UK Vision 2035, a strategic framework designed to guide the bilateral relationship into the next decade.
Sharing insights on X, Jaishankar mentioned, “Pleased to meet UK Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP on the sidelines of #G7 FMM today in Canada. Recognized the positive trajectory of our relations and discussed the India-UK Vision 2035 for enhanced cooperation across critical sectors.”
The India-UK Vision 2035 outlines a focused agenda covering economic growth, technological advancement, defense and security, climate action, and educational initiatives. It aims to establish a responsive intellectual partnership that seizes global opportunities, enhances research collaboration, and cultivates a skilled workforce.
Jaishankar’s participation affirms India's commitment to engaging with global partners, addressing international challenges, and elevating the voice of the Global South in global discussions. The G7 meeting, held in the stunning Niagara region on November 11-12, convened foreign ministers from G7 nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the EU—alongside outreach partners like India, Australia, Brazil, and others.
During their talks, Jaishankar and Cooper examined avenues for strengthening cooperation in technology, trade, climate initiatives, and education, reflecting the solid foundation of India-UK ties and facilitating future strategic partnerships and knowledge exchange.
This meeting occurs on the heels of a July discussion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, aiming to reset bilateral interactions and boost multilateral cooperation on mutual global priorities. Jaishankar is expected to engage in additional bilateral talks with various G7 and outreach nations throughout the meeting.
The India-UK Vision 2035 underscores a long-term commitment to strategic partnership, empowering both nations to collectively tackle global challenges and contribute towards a sustainable, secure future.
