Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that he has been in direct communication with US special envoy Steve Witkoff but emphasized that this does not indicate formal negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Araghchi clarified that while messages have been exchanged, Iran has yet to respond to the US’s 15-point proposal or submit any conditions.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s position that it is only open to a complete cessation of hostilities across the region rather than a temporary ceasefire. He also voiced reservations about engaging in negotiations with the United States amid ongoing tensions.
The minister condemned recent Israeli attacks on Iranian pharmaceutical companies, which he described as part of a wider campaign targeting Iran’s infrastructure. These strikes have further escalated the conflict in the region.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump criticized allies for not joining the US in strikes against Iran and warned countries to secure their own oil supplies amid Iran’s control over the vital Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil passes. The tension has contributed to rising oil prices and market instability worldwide.
