Tensions in the Middle East escalated further on March 10, 2026, as Iran launched multiple missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Gulf Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
Sirens sounded across Dubai and Bahrain as authorities reported intercepted drones, while Saudi Arabia destroyed two drones over its eastern oil-rich region. Kuwait’s National Guard reported shooting down six drones. In Israel, warning sirens were activated in Jerusalem and explosions were heard in Tel Aviv, with the country’s defense systems intercepting incoming Iranian missiles.
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stated that Tehran is not seeking a ceasefire, emphasizing a hardline stance against perceived aggressors.
The attacks have significantly disrupted regional energy infrastructure. Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane for global oil, has combined with the strikes to push Brent crude prices as high as $120 per barrel, though prices stabilized around $90 on March 10.
Donald Trump described the conflict as a short-term event but warned Iran against further interference with oil shipments. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that strikes on Iranian-linked targets would continue, particularly against Hezbollah and other militant groups in southern Lebanon.
In Iraq, a U.S.-Israeli airstrike targeted the 40th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Kirkuk, killing at least five militiamen. Meanwhile, Israel has intensified operations against Hezbollah’s financial and operational branches in Lebanon, urging residents in southern Lebanon to evacuate amid ongoing military actions.
The war has caused a humanitarian and economic crisis in the region, killing at least 1,230 people in Iran, 397 in Lebanon, 11 in Israel, and 7 U.S. service members. Millions have been displaced, and global energy markets continue to feel the ripple effects.
Amid the crisis, five members of the Iranian women’s soccer team who were in Australia for the Women’s Asian Cup were granted asylum, highlighting the conflict’s impact beyond the battlefield.
The ongoing hostilities underscore the growing instability in the Middle East, with potential long-term consequences for regional security, energy supply, and international relations.
