China has openly supported Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Wang Yi said that dialogue and negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain the key to reducing tensions in the region. He added that China welcomes and supports “active mediation” efforts by Pakistan and other countries attempting to promote peace and diplomatic engagement.
The statement came shortly after U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham questioned Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the conflict. Graham described Islamabad’s involvement as “problematic” in a social media post, sparking fresh debate over Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in regional affairs.
China’s support for Pakistan reflects Beijing’s broader push for peaceful negotiations and stability in the Middle East. Analysts believe China is trying to position itself as a major diplomatic player by encouraging regional dialogue instead of military escalation.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that the current crisis cannot be solved through confrontation or pressure. According to him, direct negotiations between the United States and Iran are necessary to prevent further instability that could affect global energy supplies and international security.
Pakistan has recently increased its diplomatic engagement in the Middle East as tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States continue to rise. Islamabad has repeatedly called for restraint, dialogue, and peaceful solutions to avoid a wider regional conflict.
Experts say China’s public endorsement of Pakistan’s mediation role may strengthen diplomatic cooperation between Beijing and Islamabad on international issues. It also highlights China’s growing influence in global conflict resolution and strategic diplomacy.
The developments come during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty across West Asia, where conflicts have already affected shipping routes, energy markets, and international trade through important corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Global leaders continue to monitor the situation closely as fears remain over the possibility of a wider confrontation involving regional and international powers. Diplomatic efforts by countries like Pakistan are now receiving increasing international attention.
