Intel has denied accusations that one of its senior executives, Wei-Jen Lo, leaked trade secrets from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The issue has sparked attention in the global chip industry as both companies are major players in advanced semiconductor technology.
TSMC recently announced that it has filed a lawsuit in Taiwan’s Intellectual Property and Commercial Court against Lo, who worked for the company for 21 years before retiring and joining Intel in October. TSMC claimed there was a “high probability” that Lo may have shared or transferred confidential information or trade secrets after leaving the company.
Intel responded on Thursday, saying it has no reason to believe the accusations are true. The company added that it has strict rules that prevent employees from using or sharing any confidential information from other companies. According to Intel, these policies are taken very seriously.
Lo has not commented publicly on the allegations.
Intel said that Lo is a respected figure in the semiconductor industry and highlighted his strong reputation, leadership, and technical expertise. The company also stated that movement of talent between companies is normal and healthy for the industry.
Lo previously worked at Intel for 18 years before joining TSMC in 2004. During his time at TSMC, he contributed significantly to the development of advanced chip technologies, including the company’s 5-nanometre, 3-nm, and 2-nm production processes.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has said it will assist in reviewing the case to determine whether any core technologies were compromised or if any national security laws were violated.
The investigation is still ongoing, and more updates are expected as authorities review the claims.
