Pune Husband Murders Wife, Inspired by Drishyam; Attempts to Destroy Evidence

Pune Husband Murders Wife, Inspired by Drishyam; Attempts to Destroy Evidence

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A horrifying incident in Pune has surfaced where a man is accused of murdering his wife, influenced by the movie Drishyam. Sameer Punjabrao Jadhav, 42, allegedly strangled his 38-year-old wife Anjali on October 26 in a rented space and subsequently burned her body in an iron furnace, spreading the ashes in a nearby river.

Since their marriage in 2017, the couple had two children who were visiting their ancestral home during Diwali, giving Jadhav the opportunity to commit the crime undetected.

Authorities revealed that Jadhav tried to mislead investigators by filing a missing-person report and using his wife's phone to send misleading messages, creating an impression that she was still alive. However, his stories were contradicted by evidential flaws, including CCTV, mobile data, and forensic evidence.

Police discovered that Jadhav had meticulously plotted the murder days ahead, renting the storage unit, preparing the furnace, and ensuring his children were elsewhere. While marital issues were cited as a possible motive, it emerged that he may have been engaged in an extramarital relationship.

During questioning, Jadhav revealed that the plot of Drishyam, focused on cleverly concealing a crime, heavily influenced his actions leading to the murder.

The case has been assigned to the Rajgad Police, who have initiated charges for murder and evidence tampering according to the Indian Penal Code. Remains found at the furnace location are currently undergoing DNA testing.

Residents of Pune's Shivane area expressed disbelief over the crime, noting their perception of Jadhav as calm and caring towards his wife. This event serves as a stark reminder of how normal appearances can hide dreadful realities.

The investigation is ongoing, as officials aim to piece together the events of this dreadful saga, highlighting the depths of planning and deceit in contemporary criminal cases.
