Anthony Albanese Makes History Marrying Jodie Haydon During Tenure

Anthony Albanese Makes History Marrying Jodie Haydon During Tenure

Post by : Saif Rahman

In a historic moment for Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has become the first sitting prime minister to marry while in office. On Saturday, he exchanged vows with his longtime partner, Jodie Haydon, in a private ceremony held at The Lodge, the prime minister's official residence in Canberra. Family members and a few close friends were the only attendees.

Engaged since last Valentine's Day, the couple kept their wedding details under wraps until the big day. Albanese expressed his happiness in a statement: “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends.”

Jodie Haydon, who has frequently been by Albanese's side in public events, sported a beautiful dress from the Sydney-based brand “Romance Was Born.” Albanese donned a suit from MJ Bale. Haydon's five-year-old niece, Ella, served as the flower girl, and their pet dog, Toto, took on the role of ring bearer.

Guests enjoyed beer from a custom can created by Willie the Boatman, a brewery from Sydney’s Inner West. After the vows, the couple walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” and shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s classic, “The Way You Look Tonight.”

Looking ahead, the couple plans a brief honeymoon in Australia next week, privately covering all costs. This intimate affair mirrors their preference for a family-oriented celebration and marks a significant milestone in Australian political history as a sitting prime minister embraces a personal achievement while in office.
