Foxconn greenlights NT$42bn AI supercomputing push in Taiwan

Foxconn greenlights NT$42bn AI supercomputing push in Taiwan

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Taipei — 28 October 2025:

Foxconn unveiled plans to deepen its AI capabilities by approving up to NT$42 billion (roughly US$1.37 billion) to build a high-performance AI compute cluster and a new supercomputing centre.

The board authorised the outlay on Monday, saying the project will be financed from the company’s internal cash reserves and implemented between December 2025 and December 2026. In its filing, Foxconn said the investment is intended to "broaden the cloud compute service platform and speed up development of the Group’s three smart platforms."

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, commonly known as Foxconn, did not disclose the exact site for the facility, though a person familiar with the matter indicated the capital will be committed within Taiwan. The company has provided no further specifics to date.

The move represents another decisive stage in Foxconn’s evolution from a contract electronics assembler into a technology and infrastructure player. The world’s largest device assembler has been ramping up investments in AI and cloud systems to lessen dependence on smartphone assembly.

Earlier this year Foxconn partnered with Nvidia on an AI data centre project in Taiwan designed to run on about 100 megawatts, one of the region’s largest designs. It also teamed with SoftBank on the “Stargate Project” in Ohio to manufacture advanced data centre components, extending its global AI infrastructure footprint.

With this NT$42 billion commitment, Foxconn is positioning itself to play a central role in the growing AI compute ecosystem and reinforcing Taiwan’s importance as a regional hub for next-generation tech development.
