Emirates and Air Canada are set to elevate their burgeoning partnership, with a renewed commitment extending to December 31, 2032. This agreement comes just three years after both airlines initiated their collaboration, during which over 550,000 passengers have travelled across their interconnected network.
The extension is aimed at enhancing passenger travel opportunities, increasing cargo collaborations, and introducing new potential gateways throughout Canada—marking a significant transcontinental airline alliance.
Since 2022, the codeshare agreement between the two airlines has expanded to 56 routes, facilitating travel across Canada, the U.S., Dubai, and numerous global locations. Emirates passengers can connect to 37 cities across Canada and the U.S., while Air Canada codeshares on 19 Emirates routes extending to the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Furthermore, their interline agreement provides access to over 225 destinations worldwide.
Daily flights are a cornerstone of this partnership. Air Canada maintains a daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner service from Toronto to Dubai, while Emirates operates its A380 daily to Toronto, in addition to seven weekly flights to Montréal using the Boeing 777. The collaboration has been further strengthened by Air Canada’s move to Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3, enhancing connections for passengers.
Cargo operations are also set to expand significantly, as the airlines investigate a potential joint venture focused on cargo, enhancing global trade movement. This initiative comes at a time of rising trade between Canada and the UAE, with Canadian exports increasing to CAD $3.3 billion in 2024—an increase of 17 percent from 2023. Shipments transported on Emirates aircraft alone have surged by 37 percent year-on-year.
With improved loyalty benefits, a wider array of redemption options including Premium Economy, and plans for coordinated operations at Dubai World Central after 2032, this renewed partnership is set to foster both tourism and trade in the upcoming years. The decision underscores the continuous demand for stronger air connections between Canada, the Americas, and the broader Asia area—vital links for millions of passengers and businesses alike.
