Egypt's head coach Helmi Toulan is eager for his team to shine in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. Today, they will face Kuwait to kick off their Group C journey at the Lusail Stadium, alongside Jordan and the UAE. This is Egypt’s sixth time in the competition, claiming the title once in 1992 and reaching the semi-finals twice, notably during the 2021 edition held in Qatar.
Unfortunately, the team will miss key players. Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush will stay with Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively, as the senior squad gears up for the Africa Cup of Nations starting on December 21 in Morocco. Despite these key absences, Toulan is optimistic about his squad's blend of seasoned players and young talent.
Toulan commented, “I’ve been appointed as coach for a temporary period. Our preparatory phase included friendly matches against Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria, which allowed us to evaluate the team and ensure a robust mix of youth and experience. Our aspirations are high, and I'm confident that the players will excel in this tournament.”
He also emphasized the importance of support from Egyptian fans in Doha and back home, believing it’s vital for the team's motivation. The Pharaohs aim to demonstrate the strength and resilience of Egyptian football, even in the absence of their star players.
Kuwait arrives in high spirits following a 2-0 win over Mauritania in the qualifiers at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. This marks their ninth Arab Cup participation, aiming for their inaugural title under Portuguese coach Hélio Sousa. Sousa highlighted the importance of long-term development while focusing on winning the opener.
Sousa stated, “Since last September, we’ve played six friendly matches to establish a cohesive team that can perform reliably. Facing a formidable opponent like Egypt, we aim to perform well and secure a win, laying the groundwork for future success.”
Historically, Egypt and Kuwait have clashed twice in the Arab Cup—Egypt winning 1-0 in 1992 and Kuwait taking a 4-1 victory in 1998. Anticipation is high as a large crowd gathers at the iconic Lusail Stadium, with both teams eager to enhance their records and create a strong impression at the tournament's outset.
Egypt seeks to leverage this tournament to nurture emerging talent while sustaining competitive momentum before the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, Kuwait focuses on building team spirit and achieving their maiden Arab Cup victory. This matchup promises a thrilling showcase of the evolving football landscape in the Arab region.
