Dubai and South Africa Boost Trade Relations Beyond AED 29.2bn

Dubai and South Africa Boost Trade Relations Beyond AED 29.2bn

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce has orchestrated an impressive 674 bilateral meetings between Dubai firms and their South African counterparts in Johannesburg and Cape Town, enhancing international trade and investment opportunities.

These meetings were part of a trade mission under the chamber’s ‘New Horizons’ initiative, aimed at assisting Dubai enterprises in tapping into promising global markets and forging strong business alliances.

Representatives from 24 companies across various sectors participated in the mission, including construction, electronics, healthcare, FMCG, ICT, and retail.

A highlight of the mission was the Dubai–South Africa Business Forum, organized in partnership with the UAE Embassy in Pretoria and local business chambers, drawing 520 participants from diverse sectors.

Key speakers, including Salem Al Shamsi from Dubai Chambers and Mtho Xulu from the South African Chamber of Commerce, discussed investment prospects and economic collaboration.

Al Shamsi emphasized that the surge in trade illustrates the strengthening economic links between Dubai and South Africa, reaffirming the chamber’s commitment to fostering cooperation and creating new business avenues.

He also highlighted South Africa as a pivotal access point for markets throughout Africa, noting that trade relations have shown remarkable growth, with non-oil trade values climbing to AED 29.2 billion in 2025 from AED 8 billion in 2016.

Additionally, the expanding ties are mirrored in the chamber’s membership, which saw 873 South African companies registered as active members by early 2026, with 45 new joins in Q1 of the year.

This recent trade mission underscores Dubai's determination to broaden its global trade network and seize growth opportunities in the African market.
